4月25日晚，酒泉卫星发射中心，长征二号F运载火箭拖着长长的火焰划破夜空。白色箭体隐没在夜幕中，只见一团火焰越飞越高，很快变成夜空中的一颗“星”。神舟十八号乘组6个月的“太空之旅”就此开始。
神舟十八号乘组由航天员叶光富、李聪、李广苏组成。与神舟十七号乘组一样，神舟十八号乘组仍由第二批航天员担任指令长，延续以老带新模式，领着两名第三批航天员飞天。乘组三人均为“80后”，是中国空间站首个“80后”乘组。
当天18时09分，问天阁南侧门打开，现场瞬间响起欢呼声。三名航天员身着乳白色舱内航天服，踏上圆梦园广场，随后在航天员照片墙前站定，向两侧人群挥手致意。
站在他们中间的是指令长叶光富。2021年，叶光富首飞圆梦，实现6个月太空驻留。此次叶光富再次挑战空间站半年生活，有望刷新中国航天员在轨时长纪录。站在两侧的李聪、李广苏都是首次叩问太空。
中新社记者在现场注意到，广场上的航天员照片墙已升级成电子屏。随着空间站任务的实施，这面照片墙上新频率从过去的几年一次增加到现在的一年两次，墙上的航天员面孔越来越多。人们期待，在不久的将来，这面墙上还会有“90后”“00后”等更年轻的面孔。
领命出征，他们在夜晚启程太空。随着夜幕降临，发射塔架逐级打开，长征二号F火箭逐渐呈现在人们眼前，吸引越来越多观众聚集在观礼区前排，现场还有不少家长带着孩子前来观摩。

自神舟十二号任务以来，航天员们每次前往太空都可以带上些许个人物品。首次飞天时，叶光富带去了葫芦丝，留下太空演奏《月光下的凤尾竹》的“名场面”。这一次，叶光富携带了另一种乐器，“只有巴掌这么大，留点悬念”，他打算在闲暇时间拿来练一练、学一学。此外，他还带了家人的照片、孩子的画、解压小玩偶。
李聪的包裹里除了家人的照片，还有一个妻子准备的神秘小礼物。妻子只告诉他是用两个女儿的胎毛做成的手工制品。“具体是什么样子，我还没看到过。”他期待去空间站拆开“一睹真容”。
李广苏则带了两个毛绒玩具。李广苏透露，这两个毛绒玩具是女儿小时候的安抚玩偶，伴随了孩子从出生到上幼儿园的整个成长过程。为了将女儿心爱的玩具“哄”到手，李广苏下了一番功夫，专门从商场里买了两个类似的新玩具送给女儿。在昨日的媒体见面会上，李广苏还提到，想替他可爱的孩子看看天上的星星到底会不会眨眼。
值得一提的是，神舟十八号乘组公开亮相当天，恰逢第九个“中国航天日”。54年前的4月24日，中国第一颗人造地球卫星“东方红一号”从酒泉卫星发射中心发射升空，拉开中国人探索浩瀚宇宙的序幕。
